County Clerk employee facing theft charges

The Cumberland Times News reports an employee of the Mineral County Circuit Clerk's Office has admitted to stealing office funds.  A news release issued Friday by County Administrator Drew Brubaker said the employee, who was not named, "made a voluntary self-disclosure of the details."  An immediate investigation was initiated by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office and county prosecuting attorney, according to the new release. The  crime was also reported to the Investigative Unit of the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office, which will conduct all further audits and investigations. The Times News article reports that It was not clear Friday afternoon whether the employee had been criminally charged. The sheriff’s office is working in conjunction with the auditor’s office to provide additional assistance and information, according to the news release.  The Circuit Clerk's Office is authorized by statute to collect various fees, fines and costs associated with cases and disburse payments of deposits, such as bonds and restitution.
