Allegany County Commissioners President Mike McKay, appearing on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” Friday, defended the county’s decision to provide bonuses to all county employees at a time when the economy continues to sag. The commissioners took the action after learning of having a budget surplus of nearly $255,000. Some critics suggest that, given the unstable fiscal picture in the state, it might be best to simply hold onto the surplus in case other needs arise down the road. McKay said that the employees are being rewarded for playing a key role in helping the county maintain a budget surplus in the past year…
