County FY 2016 Budget Expected to be Adopted at County Meeting

The Allegany County Commissioners expect to adopt the county’s fiscal 2016 budget during its regular meeting set for 5 p.m. tonight. A number of work sessions and hearings have been held on the proposed budget, but to date, no public comment has been received. The county’s proposed 2016 budget, at $84.5 million, will exceed the 2015 budget by 2.9 percent. The county plans to use $949,319 from the general fund to balance the budget. While no county positions are being cut or added, Jason Bennett, the county’s finance director, has said that holding off on filling open positions could save more than $110,000. The budget includes a 3 percent cost of living adjustment for county employees. He notes that once again the balk of the funding is targeted for education…
