County Has Yet to Receive Request of New Allegany Support from Board

October 22nd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

More than a week after voting to seek a letter of support from the Allegany County Commissioners for a new state funding package for the Allegany High School project- county officials say they have yet to receive the request. The school board voted at its October 13th meeting to send the request- as the county’s support is necessary before making an initial pitch to the Interagency Committee on School Construction in early November for the new funding package.  The school board is trying to find ways to close a funding gap on the new school, which has been estimated as high as $20 million. With just $35.2 million secured for construction of the new school, the BOE was stunned early last month when the bids came in around $60 million. Commissioners President Bill Valentine tells WCBC News that he expects the commissioners to sign a letter of support for the project- but is not prepared to make any firm funding commitments at this time…
