County Provides Overview Of Proposed FY 2017 Budget

Among the highlights of the Allegany County Commissioners proposed FY 2017 budget include a 2% raise for county employees; another incremental property tax reduction; slight increases for a number of agencies including Allegany College of Maryland and the Board of Education; and lowering debt service payments to  below the  three million dollar mark.  The commissioners conducted the first of three public hearings on the budget during the most recent business meeting.  County Finance Director Jason Bennett provided a brief overview of the proposed budget, however just one citizen commented. Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr said that it has been a difficult challenge in restoring fiscal stability to the county with a significant reduction in county employees…
