Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine says the county plans to phase out financial support for the Canal Place Preservation & Development Authority from the hotel and motel tax. Valentine says the plan is to reduce the rate for the next two years and then ending the allocation at the end of fiscal year 2014. Authority Chair Andy Vick tells WCBC News that he is encouraged that the county will continue two more years of financial contributions- with the hope being that Canal Place can eventually be self sustaining. Attracting and retaining businesses to Canal Place has been an ongoing challenge for the board over the years- but Vick says there are some “irons in the fire” and he hopes to have some positive announcements in the coming months…
