In a span of just two years, Allegany County government has lost close to 60 years of experience in its finance department. In April of 2011, longtime finance director Jerry Frantz announced his retirement- and last week, the county’s assistant director of finance stepped down after 28-year on the job. W. Jay George Jr., a certified public accountant, was honored by county commissioners for his years of service during their regular business meeting last week at county offices on Kelly Road. JasonāBennett, the county’s finance director, praised George as being a “mentor and a sounding board…but most of all a friend”. Commission President Mike McKay called George an “unsung hero” for his role in helping keep Allegany County in sound fiscal condition during some difficult economic periods. George, who will also be honored by his colleagues, next month, thanked the commissioners for the recognition…
