Cox Comments on Starting School Before Labor Day with Waiver

Barring something unforeseen, Allegany County students will continue to start their school year before Labor Day. The Board of Education voted this week to request a waiver from the governor’s executive order signed this summer that mandates a post Labor Day start to the school year. An amendment later provided opportunity for local systems to request a waiver, with one of the criteria based on the average number of snow or weather related cancellations a county gets in a given year.
