Reports that two Maryland first-graders were suspended for forming imaginary guns with their fingers for a game of cops and robbers during recess is making national headlines. The disciplinary action against the 6-year-old boys at White Marsh Elementary in Trappe, Maryland aroused controversy after parents condemned the punishment as excessive. Allegany County Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Cox said he couldn’t comment on that specific incident, not knowing all of the details- however he says that it has been his experience that school teachers and principals become more sensitive to such matters following tragic events.
