CPD Investigating South End Shooting

May 10th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

On Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at approximately 12:04 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to an alley which runs between the 400 block of Arch Street and the 400 block of Grand Avenue in reference to a report of shots being fired.  Officers were advised that shots were fired and witnesses observed an African American male running from the area and then enter into a white in color passenger car.  The vehicle then fled the area.  A vehicle matching the description as the one leaving the scene was later located and seized as evidence.

Investigation into the shooting was confirmed with evidence being located at the scene.  No victims or injuries resulted from the shooting.  Investigators from C3I responded to the scene for the investigation.  The scene was processed by a Crime Scene Technician from Maryland State Police.

Officers canvased the area checking with residents and interviewing witnesses.  Two houses in the area were struck with bullets which were recovered by the Crime Scene Technician.  Both houses were not targeted in this shooting.

Preliminary investigation reveals that this was a mutual incident; this was not just a “random” shooting.

This case is being actively investigated at this time.  Anyone with additional information is urged to call the police department at 301-777-1600.

The Cumberland Police Department was assisted by the Maryland State Police, the Maryland State Police Helicopter (Trooper 5), and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.
