CPD Make Assault Arrest & Serve Criminal Summons

On Sunday, July 9, 2017, at approximately 11:30 AM, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Boone Street residence for a report of a domestic disturbance.  Upon the officers’ arrival, they contacted the suspect, Matthew Thomas, who claimed that he had an argument with his child’s mother.  Officers contacted the victim who reported that Thomas struck her in the jaw 5-6 times.  The victim had sustained injuries.  After further investigation, Thomas was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released on his personal recognizance.

 

ARRESTED:  Matthew Ryan Thomas        AGE: 21           Cumberland, MD

CHARGES:  Assault-2nd Degree

 

CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

 

On Sunday, July 9, 2017, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on James Footen.  The summons stemmed from a June 30, 2017 incident in which it was reported that a cabinet was stolen from an E. First Street address. The complainant had reviewed video surveillance and was able to identify one of the suspects as James Footen.  The identification was confirmed by police.  An application for charges was filed against Footen at the District Court and a criminal summons was issued for Footen.  Footen was served with the summons and released pending trial.

CHARGES:  Theft less than $1,000
