CPD Make Assault & Disturbing The Peace Arrests

On October 29th, 2019, The Cumberland City Police Department arrested Michael S. Simmons, 44, of Cumberland MD. Simmons was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from an incident which occurred on October 25th, 2019. During that incident, Cumberland Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of Gay St for the report of subjects arguing inside the home. Once on scene, Officers contacted a victim in the home who stated Simmons had stolen a cell phone from them and would not return it. They then got into an argument which escalated. It was then said that Simmons assaulted the victim, tearing the victim’s shirt off. As a result of the investigation, an application of charges was filed and an Arrest Warrant issued for Simmons. Simmons was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. Simmons is currently being held without bond.

Arrested:  Michael Shameek Simmons       Age: 44,    Cumberland MD.

Charges:  Assault 2nd Degree, Theft Less than $100, Mal. Destruction of Property, Dangerous Weapon Conceal.

 

***Adult Arrest***

On October 29th, 2019, at approximately 1500 hours, The Cumberland City Police Department responded to Braddock Middle School in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival on scene, officers made contact with school personnel. They advised that it was the end of the school day and they were attempting to dismiss the students for the day. When they exited the school to dismiss the students, they observed three males standing in front of the school. They were then asked by school personnel to leave school property but refused to do so. It was at this time the police were contacted to respond. Officers then made contact with the subjects and advised them to leave the property. At this time, one of the males, identified as Akhary T. Williams, began swearing and yelling at officers and creating a disturbance. Williams was advised multiple times to leave the property and to stop creating a disturbance but refused to cease his disruptive behavior. Due to his presence on school property and his behavior, school operations were disturbed and the dismissal of students delayed. As a result, Williams was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters. Williams was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. Williams is currently being held on $3500 bond.

Charges:  Disturb the Peace, Disorderly Conduct, Fail to Obey, Trespass Private Property, Disturb School Activities.

    A middle-aged gentleman who relocated here from NC and a young one who was arrested last year for shooting someone.
