CPD Makes Theft & Several Assault Arrests

On October 9th, 2016, officers of the Cumberland Police Department were contacted regarding a domestic assault.  The female victim advised the officers that she was assaulted by her boyfriend inside of their apartment on the 400 block of Decatur St, Cumberland MD.  Through the investigation it was learned that the assault took place on 10-8-16.  The victim received injuries as a result of the assault, but was unable to contact the police at the time due to being confined against her will in the apartment by the suspect.  Based on the investigation and physical injuries to the victim, police arrested Robert Martin Barrett, age 35 of Cumberland, MD.  Barrett was charged with 2nd Degree Assault and False Imprisonment.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a $7,500 bond.

Assault Arrest

On October 9th, 2016, the Cumberland Police responded to a residence on the 300 block of City View Terrace, Cumberland MD for a report of a domestic assault.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with the female victim who advised that her live-in boyfriend, Jonathan Harriss had assaulted her.  The victim had visible injuries and was transported to the hospital by the Cumberland Fire Department for treatment of these injuries.  Based on the investigation, Harriss, age 21 of Cumberland MD, was arrested.  He was charged with 2nd Degree Assault and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.

Theft Arrest

On October 9th, 2016 the Cumberland Police responded to The Family Dollar on Queen City Drive, Cumberland MD for a shoplifting complaint.  Upon arrival officers contacted the suspect, Krystal Gallen, age 30 of Cumberland, MD outside of the business.  After speaking with the store manager, officers learned that Gallen had concealed numerous items inside of a bag and left the store without paying for them.  Gallen was arrested for Theft Less Than $100.  She was issued a criminal citation and released pending trial.

Assault Arrest

 

On October 9th, 2016 officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence on Massachusetts Ave, Cumberland MD for a report of an assault.  Upon arrival officers heard a female yelling for help, along with a male yelling loudly inside the residence.  When officers requested the male to come to the door, he refused.  The female was able to climb from a window to escape.  Information was received from the female that there was a firearm inside the residence.  Due to this safety concern, officers did not enter the residence. 

 

After communicating with the male, he eventually exited the residence.  The male was identified as Derek Allen Dicken, age 31 of Cumberland MD.  During the course of the investigation officers learned that the female victim was assaulted by Dicken, following an argument.   When she attempted to leave the residence, he would not allow her.  She was able to contact a friend who called the police. 

 

Charges were filed and he was later arrested on the warrant.  Dicken has been charged with 2nd Degree Assault and False Imprisonment.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner and is currently being held on $35,000.
