CPD Responds To Assault Call

On June 25, 2019, at 10:25 pm, officers from the Cumberland City Police responded to the 100 block of Springdale Street for a fight possibly involving a gun. When officers arrived in the area, they were unable to locate the suspects involved. Within minutes of receiving the first call, officers were dispatched to a second call about an assault with gun in the 100 block of Arch Street. Officers arrived on the scene quickly and spoke to witnesses who provided similar descriptions as the first complaint. While officers were searching the area, officers were dispatched to a third call about a fight involving a gun on West First Street.

When officers arrived at the third call they were met with a large group of individuals and multiple assault victims. Although there were several assault victims, officers found that no shots were fired during any of the altercations. Furthermore, no victims were seriously injured during the assaults. Officers gathered witness accounts and evidence while other officers canvassed the area. With the information obtained, officers were able to identify Caelen O’Toole, 19 years of age of Cumberland, Maryland as the suspect. Officers responded to a residence on Blaul Avenue where O’Toole was taken into custody. O’Toole was charged with one count of first degree assault, four counts of second degree assault, one count of affray, one count of disorderly conduct, and one count of wearing and carrying a weapon with intent to cause injury. O’Tool was later transported to District Court for his Initial Appearance and held without bond.
