CPD Serves Warrants & Summons

On Thursday, June 15, 2017 at approximately 11:55 PM, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 600 block of Columbia Avenue for a fight in progress.  Upon arrival, police began investigating the incident.  While the officers were speaking with witnesses to the incident, they pointed out the male suspect who was now driving a truck down the street.  Officers stopped the truck and identified the suspect as Aaron Long.  A wanted status check of Long revealed that he had an active bench warrant through the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear for court.  When officers informed Long that he had a warrant and that he was under arrest, Long resisted and attempted to flee on foot.  Officers were able to catch him and place him in hand restraints.  Long was transported to the police station and processed.  He was served with the bench warrant and additional on-view charges.  He was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center on two $2,000 bonds.

CHARGES:  Disorderly Conduct, Resisting a Lawful Arrest

 

ARREST WARRANT SERVED

 

On Thursday, June 15, 2017 at approximately 8:00 PM, the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Fort Cumberland Homes apartment complex in reference to a domestic assault complaint.  Officers contacted the victim who reported that the suspect, Robert Portmess, had assaulted her.  Officers observed that the victim had sustained facial injuries.  Portmess had fled the area prior to officers’ arriving at the scene.  Charges against Portmess were filed at the District Court of Allegany County and an arrest warrant was issued.  Portmess was later located and taken into custody by the Cumberland Police Department.  Portmess was served with the warrant and taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released on his personal recognizance.

CHARGES:  Assault-2nd Degree

 

 

CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

 

On Thursday, June 15, 2017, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Jakeenan Jennings.  The summons was issued as a result of an incident that occurred earlier this month.  On June 5, 2017 at approximately 3:15 PM, an officer was contacted by a cab driver who reported that he had transported a fare to a Columbia Street address.  He stated that he later discovered that the $10 fare had been paid for with counterfeit money by the suspect.   It was determined that the taxi service had received a counterfeit $100 bill which displayed “For Motion Picture Use Only”.  In turn, the suspect received $85 in change.  After further investigation, the suspect was identified as Jakeenan Jennings.  Charges were filed at the District Court of Allegany County and a criminal summons was issued.  Jennings was served and released pending trial.
