December 30th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

On 12.29.2015 at approximately 7pm, Deputies of the Allegany Sheriff's Office responded to Rt. 220 at Chesapeake Avenue in McCoole for a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist. Initial reports from callers stated that the operator of the bike was a juvenile and was reported to be unresponsive. Upon EMS' arrival it was learned that the operator of the bike was an adult and was responsive and suffering from non-life threatening injuries. Deputies arrived on scene and pursuant to the investigation learned that a 2002 Chrysler van, being operated by 66 year old Thomas VanMeter of McCoole, had yielded and cleared the intersection of Chesapeake Avenue and was completing a right turn onto Rt. 220 S/B onto the Memorial Bridge. A bicyclist, identified as 34 year old Bradley Faulk of Keyser, was traveling south bound on Rt. 220 and approaching the bridge. Faulk crossed the path of the van and the front bumper of the van struck the rear tire of the bike, causing Faulk to be thrown from the bike. Deputies concluded that Faulk was responsible for the crash as he crossed into the path of the van and his bike was not equipped with any lighting or reflectors as required. Faulk was transported to Potomac Valley Hospital. Tri-Towns EMS, Potomac Fire Company of Westernport as well as Keyser Fire Department responded to the scene. Trooper 5 was initially put on standby and subsequently cancelled by EMS. Traffic on the Memorial Bridge was impaired for a short time.
