7 AM Update
On Saturday November 19th at approximately 11:11 p.m. deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to Route 36 in the area of Rockville Street in Lonaconing for a reported vehicle crash.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford Mustang being operated by Francis Conners, 26 years old of Cumberland , was traveling southbound on Route 36 when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. A second vehicle approached the crash scene and struck the downed utility pole , the operator of this vehicle was treated at the scene by EMS and released.
A passenger in the Conners vehicle, Virginia England-23 years old of Cumberland , and the operator were taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. England sustained serious, potentially life-threatening injuries. Mr. Connors injuries appeared non life-threatening at the time.
The crash is being investigated by a Crash Reconstructionist of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, assisted by PFC. Jacob Sullivan, an Advanced Crash Investigator with the Cumberland City Police Department.
Goodwill Fire Company , Midland Fire Company, Tri Town's EMS, Georges Creek Ambulance, Frostburg Ambulance, the Allegany County Fire Police, the Maryland State Police and the Maryland State Highway Administration assisted at the scene.
Route 36 was closed until approximately 3 a.m.
Speed is believed to have played a factor in the incident. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
Initial WCBC Reports:
Allegany County 911 dispatched police, fire and rescue units to Lower Georges Creek Road north of the Pit N Go during the 11 PM hour Saturday night for a collision that also involved a utility pole and lines down.
The call came in at 11:13 PM, and several units were part of the initial response, including Goodwill VFD, and ambulances from George's Creek, Frostburg and Tri Towns.
A total of three people were transported from the scene, and one patient was reported to be in trauma arrest, Allegany County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating.
Firemen from Midland assisted with the reconstruction of the accident, and crews from Potomac Edison and Verizon tended to the pole and line damage.
A second mishap was reported just before 1 AM at 17701 Lower Georges Creek Road SW, near Nikep, causing the route to be shut down in that location.
There were no transports from that mishap, as those involved refused treatment.
Barton VFD responded, along with Tri Towns Ambulance.
Maryland State Troopers are handling the investigation.
