CSX Target of City’s Disgust

September 12th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

For the second consecutive public meeting CSX took a beating from members of the Cumberland Mayor and City Council for allowing the Washington Street bridge to fall into such a state of dis-repair that it has been closed for a month. CSX suggested last month that the city take ownership of the bridge in order to secure federal funds to substantially improve it- or build a new bridge. That idea was rejected- and during the latest rounds of talks on Tuesday, CSX is raising questions about ownership- indicating that they have no paperwork identifying it as a CSX property. The city has also been unable to locate any documents formally outlining ownership. City Engineer John Difonzo  chided CSX for essentially ignoring the condition of the bridge for so long.
