Residents of about 40 Hyndman households — those who live closest to the site of a CSX freight train derailment last week — are being allowed to return home at 5 p.m. Friday, nine days after the incident forced evacuation of most of the town. The last of the town's displaced residents, who live in an area between the Schellsburg Street bridge and the Hogback Road railroad crossing, were asked to relocate while CSX worked around the clock to clean up the site of the 32-car derailment, company spokesman Rob Doolittle said. The 178-car train traveling from Chicago to Selkirk, New York, derailed on the northern edge of town Aug. 2, sparking several fires and destroying at least one home and one garage.
