Cumberland And Frostburg Honor Past And Present Elected Officials

Both Cumberland and Frostburg took time out to honor city elected officials, both past and present, in  separate events this week. On Thursday afternoon, the Cumberland mayor and City Council recognized the accomplishments of past city elected officials with a brief open house and program in the City Hall rotunda. The current officials decided to reflect on the leadership of their counterparts after recently observing the 200th anniversary of the beginning of construction of the National Road, the 225th birthday of the founding of the city and the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of City Hall. This year is the 100th anniversary of the first production of water from the Lake Gordon Dam. The idea of a tribute ceremony came from former Councilman Harold “Butch” Hendershot who talked about the sacrifice made by those individuals who choose public service…
