Cumberland Chase, a planned development on 1,100 acres adjacent to the Barton Business Park on U.S. Route 220 South, has been stalled since the deaths of its two founding partners, Rob Kessel and Rob Markwood- however the project is now getting a boost from the Allegany County Commissioners. The project was initiated in 2006 but Kessel died in 2008 and Markwood in 2010. Now the county is hoping to see the project revived, even though negotiations between a potential developer and a bank that owns the property have stalled. The bank may decide to sell off the property in small parcels or as a whole, county officials said. A Request for Proposals (RFP) is needed because of the stalled negotiations between the interested, unnamed developer and Summit Community Bank of Moorefield, W.Va. The master plan will help guide development of the property and provide an element of certainty to potential developers.
