On September 19, 2017 at approximately 3:48 PM the Cumberland Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue for a disturbance inside the residence.  When police arrived they learned Abraham Rivera Ortiz had begun destroying things inside the residence for an unknown reason.  Police located Ortiz still inside the residence and found him in the kitchen area and he was not immediately awake.  As police made contact with him he immediately became combative and assaulted two officers.  Ortiz was subdued after a brief struggle and he was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for an unrelated medical problem.  Police applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for Ortiz as a result of the incident.  Ortiz was later arrested after being released from the hospital.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $1000 bond.  He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center to await his next appearance in District Court.  The officers sustained minor injuries during the incident and were treated and released at the scene.
