Cumberland Man Charged with Bomb Threat

On Monday night, 32 year old Christopher David Shrader, of Cumberland, was arrested after an arrest warrant was obtained in connection with threats he had made against employees of the Allegany County Department of Social Services. Shrader was charged with Arson Threat, 2nd Degree Assault, and related charges.

The investigation began earlier on 02/10/2014 when the Cumberland Police received a complaintfrom the Allegany County Department of Social Services that Shrader had made threats to blow up the building housing Social Services and had threatened individual employees.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) interviewed witnesses and learned that Shrader had an assault rifle and handgun he alleged he was going to use to carry out his threats. Based on those interviews, Investigators obtained a search warrant for Shrader’s residence. Entry into the residence was made by the Cumberland Police Department’s CERT team.

Once inside, Investigators recovered an AR-15 rifle, a .32 caliber revolver, a large amount of ammunition, numerous knives, and related items. In addition to the weapons, Investigators also recovered suspected marijuana and crack cocaine. No explosive or bomb making devices werediscovered.

Assistance during the search was provided by the C3I Narcotics Task Force.

Shrader was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $75,000.00 bond pending his next court appearance.

Additional weapons and CDS charges are pending. The investigation is continuing by the Cumberland Police, the C3I Narcotics Task Force, and C3I.
