Cumberland man charged with rape

On Friday afternoon, 04/28/2017, members of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) arrested 45 year old Timothy Jay Getz, of Cumberland, in connection with sex offenses committed against an underage female victim after a warrant had been issued for his arrest.   On 04/27/2017 the Cumberland Police and Child Protective Services responded to the emergency room at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after a 14 year old victim disclosed to ER staff that she had been the victim of sexual assault.

 

            C3I was contacted to assist in the investigation. A joint investigation by Child Protective Services and C3I was initiated at that time.

 

            An interview of the victim revealed that the suspect had been engaging in inappropriate sexual acts with the victim from the time she was 8 years old until the present.

 

            As part of the investigation, Investigators served search warrants at two separate residences and the suspect's office and recovered evidence related to the crime.

 

            Getz has been charged with fifteen felonies and one misdemeanor. The charges include three counts of 1st Degree Rape, one count of 2nd Degree Rape, three counts of 3rd Degree Sex Offense, three counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor, one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor as a Continuing Course of Conduct, and related charges.

 

            He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond, pending his next court appearance.
