In late April a joint investigation was initiated by Child Protective Services and the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) into allegations of sexual abuse after a now 15 year old female victim came forward to report that she had been touched inappropriately over the course of several years. The victim stated that the abuse began when she was about ten years old and continued for approximately the next four years. In addition to the victim, C3I Investigators interviewed other potential witnesses, which led to obtaining a search warrant for the suspect's residence in Cumberland, where Investigators recovered evidence related to the crime. Investigators arrested a 24 year old male, from Cumberland, after obtaining a warrant for his arrest. The suspect is being charged with a Continuing Course of Conduct Sexual Abuse of a Minor. The suspect is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. The name of the suspect is intentionally being withheld by Investigators to try to protect the identity of the victim.
