On  Christmas morning at approximately 12:50 AM, the Cumberland Police responded to the Circle K convenience store on Oldtown Road in Cumberland for a reported armed robbery. At that time Officers were advised that two suspects had entered the business and approached the cashier on duty. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded cash. The cashier complied and gave the suspects an undisclosed sum of cash. The suspects also took several cartons of cigarettes and other miscellaneous items.

The witness provided descriptions of the suspects and a possible suspect vehicle. A search was conducted, but the suspects were not located at that time.

On 12/30/2018, at approximately 8:40 PM, the Frostburg Police responded to a private residence on Grant Street in Frostburg for a reported home invasion robbery. Officers learned that three suspects had entered the residence. Two of the suspects displayed handguns. The suspects proceeded throughout the residence and stole cash, electronics, and cell phones, among other items.

While doing so, the suspects struck one of the victims several times in and about the head with a handgun. The victim was later transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center emergency room for treatment of their injuries.

The victims were able to provide descriptions of the suspects and a possible suspect vehicle. A search was conducted, but the suspects were not located at that time.

A short time later a vehicle matching the description of the possible suspect vehicle was spotted and stopped in the parking lot of the Country Club Mall. The victim/witnesses were transported to the scene, and after viewing the occupants of the vehicle, advised that the occupants were not the suspects responsible for the robbery.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) conducted numerous interviews with witnesses to both incidents, and reviewed video surveillance as part of the follow up investigation into the incidents. As a result, they were able to identify several suspects and were able to obtain arrest warrants for those identified.

On 01/01/2019 the Hagerstown Police arrested 32 year old Marcus Logan Vaughn, recently of Cumberland, on charges unrelated to the robberies. At that time they found him in possession of a handgun on his person, and illegal CDS in his vehicle.

Hagerstown officers soon learned of the warrant for Vaughn's arrest for his part in the Cumberland Circle K robbery. The warrant was forwarded to Hagerstown and served by Hagerstown officers.

Subsequent to that warrant, C3I investigators obtained another arrest warrant for Vaughn's arrest for his part in the Frostburg Grant Street robbery.  That warrant has been forwarded to Hagerstown, as well, and has been lodged as a detainer so he will not be released, should he be able to post bond, or is released, pending trial in Washington County.

The warrants charge Vaughn with robbery and numerous related charges.

Additional arrests are pending. The investigation is continuing by C3I.
