Allegany County State's Attorney Mike Twigg announced Friday that Brian Johnson, 50, of Cumberland, was convicted of second degree assault and reckless endangerment on following a jury trial in Allegany County Circuit Court. Circuit Court Judge Gary Leasure, presiding Circuit Court Judge, revoked Johnson's bond and remanded him to the custody of the Sheriff pending a sentencing hearing.
The investigation revealed that in the early morning hours of December 5, 2014, Johnson was a passenger in a vehicle traveling Braddock Road towards Cumberland. At that time, Johnson displayed a knife, attacking the driver, who suffered minor injuries. Cumberland City Police Sgt. Eric Bonner was following behind the vehicle at the time of the incident and was able to come to the aid of the driver after observing his erratic driving.
The case was investigated by the Cumberland City Police Department and the C3I Unit. Assistant State's Attorney Erich Bean prosecuted the case. Mr. Johnson was represented by David Schram of the Public Defender's Office.
