The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, the Honorable Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Friday, March 25, 2016, that Joshua Ian Cline, 39 of Cumberland, was convicted in Allegany County Circuit Court of the crimes of Issuing a Falsified Document and Possession of Cocaine. The Honorable W. Timothy Finan sentenced Cline to 10 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections.
The cases stem from two separate incidents. The first involved taking checks from a local business in March of 2015. Cline forged one of the checks and attempted to cash it at a local bank. The second incident involved a traffic stop in Cumberland in March of 2015. Cline was the operator and lone occupant of the vehicle at the time of the stop, and a subsequent search revealed an amount of cocaine.
According to Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean, who prosecuted the case “Mr. Cline’s extensive criminal history played a role in this substantial sentence. His attempt to cash a stolen check, was for the purpose of feeding his drug addiction.”
The C3I Unit and Cumberland City Police Department participated in the investigation. Cline was represented by attorney James Elliott of the Public Defender’s Office.
