The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Wednesday, April 19,  that Jacob Murill Crock, 29 of Cumberland, was convicted in the Allegany County Circuit Court on two counts of robbery.  The Honorable Jeffrey Getty, Circuit Court Judge, sentenced Crock to 20 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections, with all but six years suspended.

The first robbery occurred in June of last year, when Crock entered a hotel lobby in LaVale, demanded money from the desk clerk and forcefully took cash from a register, fleeing the area.  The second robbery occurred in October of last year, when Crock approached a woman in Cumberland, took her purse from her arm, and ran away.  No weapon was displayed in either occurrence, and no one was injured.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean, who prosecuted the cases “This is a perfect example of how opioid addiction can ruin a person’s life.  Mr. Crock had no criminal history until his addiction took over his life last year and he made desperate, dangerous decisions to fuel it.  Upon his release, he will be required to follow through with treatment as part of his probation, or he goes back to prison for 14 more years.”

The cases were investigated by the C3I Unit and Cumberland City Police.  Crock was represented by James Elliott of the Public Defender’s Office.
