June 6th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

33 year old Shawn Joseph Miller, of Cumberland, was arrested by members of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office and the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I)  after a warrant had been issued for his arrest. The charges stem from a series of assaults upon a 36 year old female victim who was involved in a relationship with the defendant.

The allegations first came to light when the victim responded to the District Court and filed an application for an arrest warrant. The case came to the attention of the State's Attorney's Office, who requested additional investigation by the C3I Unit, based on the seriousness of the allegations.

Investigators learned through further investigation that the victim had photographic and video evidence of several of the alleged assaults. Investigators also learned that evidence of the assaults also was inside the residence of the suspect.

C3I Investigators applied for and obtained a search warrant for the suspect's residence, located in the 13000 block Bedford Road. Entry into the residence was made by the Cumberland Police Department CERT team, with the assistance of the Washington County Special Response Team. Investigators were able to recover several items of evidence during the search.

Miller is being charged with numerous counts of 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and False Imprisonment. He is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
