The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, that Aaron Scott Long, 40, of Cumberland, was convicted of first degree burglary. The Honorable Jeffrey Getty, Allegany County Circuit Court Judge, sentenced Long to ten years in the Maryland Department of Corrections, suspending three years of the sentence. Long will be on a period of supervised probation upon his release.
In the early morning hours of January 2, 2019, Cumberland City Police officers responded to a Waverly Terrace address for a reported breaking and entering. Long was found inside the residence, and it was learned that the owner had passed away two days earlier. Family members confirmed that no one was to be in the home, and property found on Mr. Long was identified as belonging to the deceased resident.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Erich M. Bean of the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office. Mr. Long was represented by attorney James Kruger.
