The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, that Jesse James Wilkinson, 26 of Cumberland, was convicted of first degree burglary in the Allegany County Circuit Court.  The Honorable Judge W. Timothy Finan sentenced Wilkinson to 15 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections, suspending seven years of the sentence.  Wilkinson was on probation at the time, and during a subsequent hearing in that case, Judge Finan imposed an additional five year sentence to be run consecutively to the sentence in the burglary case, for a total of 13 years of incarceration.  Upon his release, Wilkinson will be placed on supervised probation for five years, ordered to pay restitution to the victim, and successfully undergo treatment and testing for substance abuse issues.  Any violation of that probation could result in the reimposition of the seven years that was suspended.

On June 18, 2018, police were called to respond to a burglary at a residence on Drake Road in Cumberland.  The owner reported he had returned to find his home had been burglarized and several items were missing, including firearms.  The investigation revealed that some of those items had been pawned locally by Wilkinson, who subsequently admitted to investigators that he committed the burglary.

The case was investigated by the Maryland State Police and members of the C3I Unit. Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean prosecuted the case.  Mr. Wilkinson was represented by local attorney Lee Beeman.
