Although the numbers are bleak and some drastic measures may need to be taken- the Cumberland Mayor and City Council members are unified in a desire to not increase taxes. The city is facing the loss of more than $500,000 because of an almost 6 percent decline in property values. Although only a work session with no official vote, Council members essentially agreed that they don’t want to raise the tax rate to make up for revenue lost due to a decline in property values. And they don’t want to dip into the city’s slowly growing fund balance.
