Cumberland Mayor And City Council To Meet Tonight For Budget Work Session

These are anxious days for employees of local government- as the City of Cumberland and Allegany County have both delayed the annual budget process somewhat, waiting to see the final budget that emerges this week from state lawmakers in Annapolis. Having no choice but to proceed with plans for implementing Maryland’s so-called “doomsday” budget- which was adopted in early April- city and council leaders have been going through an excruciating process that has already led to planned layoffs and furloughs. With the state picture expected to clear up, and improve somewhat following this week’s special general assembly session- the Cumberland Mayor and Council will meet tonight for a budget work session to provide some updates.
