Cumberland Police Make Assault & CDS Arrests

At approximately 1146pm on December 6th, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Memorial Avenue residence for a report of an assault.  An officer arrived on the scene making contact with the female victim who was displaying visible signs of injuries.  Officers spoke with both subjects involved and it was determined that Cody George Edward Damon assaulted the female prior to the arrival of officers.  Damon was taken into custody without incident.   He was transported to Police Headquarters for processing and to await a hearing in District Court.  At the conclusion of his initial appearance he was held without bond.

At approximately 1237am on December 7th, the Cumberland Police Department stopped a vehicle on Park Street for a traffic violation.  A city Police Canine unit was requested to the scene to assist.  A free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle was conducted and a positive alert was given.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and in the rear seat area of the vehicle officers located suspected crack cocaine.  Officers placed the rear seat passenger Mark Feodor Smith Jr. under arrest charging him with possession.  Smith was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released on a $2,500.00 unsecured bond pending trial.

Officers served an arrest warrant on Chantee Marie Carey for violation of a pretrial release condition.  Carey was arrested and charged with assault on November 27th and one of the conditions of her release was not to contact or harass the victim or enter the residence located on Memorial Avenue.  Officers learned that on December 1st Carey was at the residence in violation of the order.  An application for charges was completed charging her with the violation.  She was taken before the District Court Commissioner where she was held without bond.
