Cumberland Police Make Saturday Pot Bust

On Saturday January 30, 2016, at 1:58 am, a Cumberland City Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation on Queen City Drive. Contact was made with Omar Powel, age 43, of Lexington, Kentucky.

The officer elected to further investigate and summonsed a K9 officer to respond and as a result of a “free air sniff” of the vehicle, a positive alert was made. A search of the vehicle was conducted and several baggies of suspected marijuana were found. Powel was placed in custody and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was criminally cited and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court.

CHARGES: Possession of Marijuana (less than 10 grams), Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.
