Cumberland Police Making Every Effort To Address Downtown Concerns

Following last weeks public meeting focusing on some of the problems facing downtown Cumberland, Captain Greg Leake, of the Cumberland Police Department, tells WCBC News that every effort to address those concerns will be undertaken- however there are some limitations as to how much law enforcement can do.  During the two hour plus meeting, top concerns voiced included homeless people, panhandlers, loitering, drug use, foul language and inappropriate attire. When speaking at the meeting, Captain Leake was quick to point out that the Supreme Court ruled that arresting people for loitering is unconstitutional- and there is little that can be done when it comes to how people choose to dress…
