Cumberland Woman Arrested For Attempted Murder

On May 18, 2014 at 2:00 AM the Cumberland Police responded to a residence in the 300 block of Avirett Avenue for a check on well being.  It was learned a male subject had gone to a neighbor’s house requesting police.  The neighbor observed bleeding and contacted police.  When police arrived the subject stated he had been stabbed during a verbal argument.  Police observed a large stab wound on the left side of the victim’s chest area.  The victim identified his assailant as Jeri Elaine Gough and said she had fled the scene.  Police checked the residence and surrounding area but was unable to locate the suspect.  The Cumberland Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital for life threatening injuries.  Later that morning the victim was listed in stable condition. 

The next morning on May 19, Gough turned herself in to the Cumberland Police Department where she was served with an arrest warrant charging her with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, and Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure.  Gough was taken before a District Court Commissioner where she was held without bond.
