January 2nd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

On Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Ramada Inn on George Street in reference to a female attempting to pass counterfeit currency and causing a disturbance.  When officers arrived, contact was made with a Ramada Inn security who directed their attention to the female in question. When officers made contact with the female she was identified as Keonna Marie Britton.  As officer began to speak with Britton about the complaint, she immediately began to create another disturbance in the officers’ presence and was uncooperative. Britton was warned several times about her behavior but continued to cause a disturbance in the lobby area of the Ramada Inn.  As officers tried to calm Britton down, at one point she placed her hand on one of the officers requesting to “be taken to jail”. Britton was then placed under arrest. Britton was escorted from the Ramada by officers and transported to the Cumberland City Police Station for processing. Once at the station, Britton continued to be uncooperative and assaulted two officers by spitting and kicking at them while they were attempting to process her.  Several counterfeit $100 bills were seized as evidence that Britton possessed and attempted to pass at the Ramada Inn. Britton was charged with 2 counts of assault on police, disorderly conduct, passing counterfeit currency, obstructing and hindering, fail to obey a lawful order, and resisting arrest. She was later taken before the District Court Commissioner and was released on her own personal recognizance pending trial.
