Dando Case Dropped

September 2nd, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office has dropped sexual assault charges against Dr. William Dando this morning, citing the "he said, she said" nature of Dando's case and an agreement for Dando to stop practicing medicine.

Dando had been indicted by the Grand Jury and was scheduled to stand trial Wednesday for allegations he inappropriately touched a 41-year-old female patient in April at MedExpress in LaVale.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jacqueline Brandlen told Circuit Court Judge Tim Finan that rather than pursuing a trial, her office has worked with the victim, the state attorney general's office and the Maryland Board of Physicians to resolve the case by accepting Dando's surrender of his medical license.

State health officials are meanwhile investigating how Dando was able to receive a medical license in Maryland in 1996 despite a 1987 conviction for raping a woman at gunpoint in Florida.
