Despite appointment, Security Chief issue not settled

June 14th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Although the Allegany County Board of Education voted this week to drop the interim title in appointing  Matt Marlowe as the coordinator of School Safety- it's unlikely that action will put an end to what has been a months long debate. It was at a meeting in February when board members Robert Farrell, David Bohn and Wayne Foote suggested the elected board have the power to appoint the security chief position. Members Deb Frank and Tammy Fraley maintain that state law gives the superintendent that responsibility. The issue was taken up again this week with the board ultimately agreeing to seek an opinion from the state board.  Frank has said publicly that she believes the majority board- specifically Farrell- already have a name in mind to fill the position. Speculation has centered on retired state trooper Jason Merritt- a onetime candidate for sheriff.  Appearing on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show” Thursday- Frank was asked why drop the interim title if the issue remains unresolved…

Mr Marlowe looks like he ought to scare youth gangs right out of the schools. With his past employment with the CIA he should be able to use his resource to find something a regular background can’t find.

Yeah, youth gangs patrol the halls and wreak havoc at our 3 smallish high schools on a daily basis.
