Deer Saved From Flood Waters by Garrett County Deputies

July 2nd, 2019 by WCBC Radio

This story comes through Garrett County Animal Control.

In the early morning hours of Sunday June 30, 2019 two Garrett County Sheriff’s Deputies, Wilt and Fazenbaker, came to a flooded roadway.

The water was rushing, but in the middle of all this water was a little baby deer clinging to a small section of road that was not flooded. Knowing the instincts of a small baby deer, the Deputies devised a plan to conduct a water rescue. As the Deputies got into the water it quickly got up past their knees. The deer cowered and didn’t move, so the Deputies scoop it up.

After getting to safe ground they place the deer into a nearby field where other deer were grazing. The Deputies said that the deer would have likely drown if they had not stepped in.
