Del. Myers Wants More Accountability On Tip Jar Revenue

While not suggesting there are any reasons to suspect impropriety- Delegate Leroy Myers has asked the Allegany County Commissioners to consider advocating for more accountability from volunteer fire and rescue departments that generate revenue via tip jars. Tip jars are essentially used by three groups in Allegany County: for profit businesses; non profit clubs; and fire and rescue units. For profits can use their revenue as they see fit; non profits are required to show how much money is generated and to show how those funds are being distributed. However fire and rescue departments are not required to report publicly how those tip jar dollars are being spent. Myers says that neighboring Washington County has recently taken steps to require some type of accountability…
