DelFest Continues to Pay Dividends for the Area

May 9th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

At its peak in the early 1990’s, the former Rocky Gap Country Music Bluegrass Festival with legendary performers such as Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash maxed out in attendance at around 20,000 for the weekend. Delfest 2013 at the Allegany County Fairgrounds Memorial Day weekend will easily surpass those numbers. Del McCoury, the bluegrass legend and father of Delfest was in town recently to help promote the sixth annual event. He actually played the Rocky Gap Festival back in 1991. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine says Delfest has put Allegany County on the map nationally and has developed into a premier tourist attraction.
