DelFest Seeks Legislation Change to Allow Alcohol Sales at New Event

Organizers of DelFest- planning to hold an additional  music festival in Allegany County beginning next year- want to see state legislation approved that will allow for the sale of alcohol during the event. County Administrator Brandon Butler told the local delegation Thursday that the purpose of the request is to amend current state law to allow for-profit promoters to be issued an on-premise liquor license for events in the Arts and Entertainment Districts in Allegany County- essentially Frostburg and Downtown Cumberland. The Delfest event has been held each Memorial Day weekend for the past 11 years at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. Currant law only allows for-profit promoters to possess such licenses for festivals at the fairgrounds- but nowhere else. The plans for the second music festival is to have it expand to include not only the fairgrounds, but also parts of Cumberland and Frostburg, which would require the new law if alcohol is to be sold…
