Department Of Natural Resources To Continue To Oversee Rocky Gap State Park

The underperformance and eventual sale of the Rocky Gap Resort in Allegany County in August cost the Maryland Economic Development Corporation (Medco) and bondholders $67.6 million, according to an audit performed by the Department of Legislative Services’ Office of Legislative Audits. Rocky Gap was sold this year to Lakes Entertainment of Minneapolis for $6.8 million. The resort’s liabilities exceeded its assets by $60 million as of June 30, according to the Medco audit. With the lodge and resort about to be converted into a full fledged casino complete with slots and table games- many western Maryland residents have expressed concern with how the state park and recreational areas at Rocky Gap will be impacted.
