Deputies Made Theft, Drug Arrest

On March 31, 2015 deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the Bowman's Addition area to search for a subject who was wanted on theft related charges. While en route to the Bowman's Addition area, a deputy was able to locate the vehicle the subject was reported to be driving and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The operator and sole occupant, Krista Elaine Whiteman (32 years old, Cumberland) was contacted and the arrest warrant was confirmed through the Allegany County Joint Communications Center. While the Deputy was speaking to Ms. Whiteman he observed a controlled dangerous substance inside the vehicle. Ms. Whiteman was taken into custody without incident and a probable cause search was conducted and additional CDS was located inside the vehicle. Ms. Whiteman was served the arrest warrant along with a criminal summons from an unrelated assault case. She was also charged with the CDS violations relating to the items that were located in the vehicle at the time of her arrest. Ms. Whiteman was taken to the District Court for Allegany County and requested an attorney prior to her initial hearing. She was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center and was held on a temporary commitment while awaiting an initial hearing. Following the initial appearance on 4/1/15, Ms. Whiteman was ordered held on $5,000.00 The arrest warrant was issued on 3/31/15 following an investigation by the Sheriff's Office in reference to the theft of and subsequent forging of checks stolen from a family member. That investigation is on going and additional charges are pending.
