Despite Covid Increase in WV, Governor Will Not Mandate Facemasks

June 24th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Despite an upward trend in COVID-19 cases and infection rates in the state, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said again this week that he is not prepared to institute additional measures to curtail the spread of the virus, including mandating wearing face masks in public settings. Justice’s statement comes following a two-week period when new COVID-19 cases in the state increased 28% and as the state’s infection rate, or R-naught, climbed above the threshold of 1.0% on Monday to 1.05%. That means one infected individual will infect at least one other person. The governor said face masks are a great defense against spreading the virus, but is still stopping short of making them mandatory…

What does he care Welchy? He’s a coal billionaire and is safe and sound either in the governor’s mansion or the Greenbriar which he owns.

Frequenting shopping centers, malls, bars and restaurants without masks is only inviting this virus to read its ugly head again. It’s not over and it’s not just a cold. I can’t believe the attitudes of folks regarding these simple mitigation efforts. Sad!
