Despite Nationwide Support for USPS Aid, Local Mail Issues Persist

According to new polls, Americans overwhelmingly support a congressional appropriation for the U.S. Postal Service as the cash-strapped mailing agency continues to struggle amid the COVID-19 pandemic, however locally some are expressing continued frustration with the postal service. In one survey, 92% of American voters said they supported financial relief for USPS as part of the next coronavirus relief bill. In another, two-thirds of respondents said Congress should directly appropriate funds to the Postal Service.  Among those not impressed, former Allegany County Commissioner and longtime area business owner Bill Valentine. Valentine, on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show’, says he has been unable to get straight answers or consistent service when it comes to transferring his mail- despite filling out all of the appropriate paperwork…

The USPS is losing millions on the deal with Amazon negotiated under the prior administration. If operated under good business practices the deficits would disappear.

I regularly get other people’s mail delivered to my house and must presume some of mine gets delivered elsewhere. It also comes late in the day, after dark sometimes in winter. It got worse a few years ago when the sorting got moved to Baltimore. It appears that rather than laying off the sorters, they got rid of the younger, more enthusiastic carriers with less seniority and gave the sorters their jobs. Hence our surly, disgruntled and likely overpaid carriers.

      > Weekends are filled with substitutes based on the routes designation so its likely a newer carrier mis-delivering mail.

        > Nope, most boo boos are done during the week by elder carriers. Try again union apologist. Then we can address the dreadful post office counter staff that can’t manage a simple mailing to the U.K.

The USPS wastes a lot of money. Carriers making 70k a year to deliver mail is nuts. The unions are the reason the USPS is going broke, they will try and spin it as having to pay the pot 75 years in advance, and granted that’s a bit of it, but the amount of waste is crazy. Tell me why my package goes from Maryland to DC back to Maryland? Waste!!
