The Maryland Public Service Commission on Wednesday had granted Dan’s Mountain Wind Force the exception needed to move forward with the controversial project. It’s a case that is now several years old pitting the developer against a citizens group strongly opposed to the project. The company looking to place 17 wind turbines on the ridgeline of Dan’s Mountain near the communities of Midland and the Harwood Subdivision, along with Vale Summit, Cresaptown and Bel Air. The opponents, known as ANCHOR, have argued that the project would create excessive noise pollution, destroy neighborhood views and negatively impact property values. The PSC decision, announced via a two paragraph statement on it’s website, offered no rational for its ruling stating simply that it has “granted the Company’s Application for an exemption of the requirement to obtain a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity”. These criticisms are a last ditch effort to make a good thing seem bad.
My favorite one is ‘light flicker’. Those blades would have to spin as fast as a table fan to produce any ‘flicker’ If you have a tree in your yard and the sun is shining through the branches when a breeze occurs the light from the sun will ‘flicker’. Is this what Darlene Park’s talking about? Do the trees in her yard lower her property value as a result? Has she removed all of the trees as a result? Has she petitioned to have trees in neighboring yards be removed?

Sooo, when they can’t sell any of the housing lots out there by Barton Dairy, I suppose we should empathize with the surprised look on Commissioners and other powers that be faces.
